A New Thing

The Back Story

Over the past months both my current church and I have been discerning our denominational future. It became clear to me that my season with the United Methodist Church was ending and a new season with the Global Methodist Church was beginning. When FUMC Pearland/Redeemer did not reach the required vote to disaffiliate, I knew God was calling me and my family to step out in faith.

I applied to the GMC. I withdrew from the Texas Annual Conference. And I resigned from an appointment as a Director of Discipleship that has fed my heart and soul. And I waited. I trusted. I laughed. When I go back and look at the dates, I’m pretty sure it was 40 days of waiting. Isn’t God wonderful and perfect? Keeping me in the wilderness for the biblically appropriate wilderness time? (I’m thrilled He chose days instead of years, too.)

See, I am doing a new thing!
    Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.

Isaiah 43:19

The News

And yesterday, God’s plan was revealed when I met with my new church family, First Methodist Church of Sweeny. The people I met were warm and welcoming, eager to receive the Word of God, and ready to impact their community for Christ. I’m excited to work together to grow the Kingdom.

It’s all a bit surreal. I’m still taking it all in and wrapping my head and heart around it. I’d always imagined I would pastor a church one day when the boys were older, but here I am, trusting God and His plan. God never ceases to amaze me.

God is good! All the time!

All the time! God is good!

  2. Go rock their world, Wendy. I know that you will pastor them and teach them and lead them. Like David, you will be. . And David shepherded them with integrity of heart;
    with skillful hands he led them.
