Behind the Story

Today ABC13 is airing a segment about the Paintballing Pastor. That’s me. And the way it all came to be is surreal.

When I began My Next Chapter of Ministry on August 1 as the Pastor of Rosenberg First Methodist Church, the local paper The Fort Bend Herald sent a reporter to interview me. Brandon Norvell and I spoke for over an hour about me, the church, the Global Methodist Church, and my family. When asked what I do for fun, I shared: reading, watching movies, spending time with my family, and playing paintball. This led to the article’s title, “Paintball Enthusiast Named Pastor of Methodist Church.”

Fast forward a few months, an ABC13 producer sought feel-good stories from the area and stumbled upon this article. Several phone calls, emails, and text messages later, a fantastic videographer spent Sunday, March 17 with me, my church, and my paintball team, The Texas Nightstalkers at Tanks Paintball in Richmond, TX.

Filming the segment was a joy! The videographer Reggie Sadburry was full of ideas and questions. The congregation welcomed the excitement and several partners were interviewed. It was a great day of worship! Then at the paintball field, my teammates were patient as we filmed an action movie, of which I was the star. It was rainy and muddy. And I was covered in mud when we were done!

Reggie was with me from 9:30 to about 4:30 and the segment is super short, so I don’t know what will make the final cut. Once I have time to process it, I will write another post about what didn’t make it that I want you to know about me, Rosenberg First, and paintball!
